SEO for Wedding Photographers

SEO Keywords for Wedding Photographers

What matters most when it comes to your wedding photography business?

Leads. And it’s very hard to get leads if you don’t have traffic coming to your website.

Today, I’m sharing a list of traffic driving wedding keywords that you can target for your wedding business to boost website traffic and find more photography leads.

I’ll also be showing a few simple strategies you can start doing today to find endless lucrative wedding keywords to rank for.

Similar to my 50 Ways To Drive More Wedding Traffic To Your Website article, this information is meant to inspire you to be creative when marketing your wedding business online.

Let’s get started:

  • [city] wedding photography packages
  • high-end wedding photographer in [city]
  • professional wedding photography
  • wedding photographer under $2000
  • engagement photographer
  • [city] wedding photographer cost
  • engagement photo locations in [city]
  • wedding photography students
  • [city] wedding photography and videography
  • gay-friendly wedding photographer
  • price of wedding photographer in [city]
  • top wedding photographers in [city]
  • pre-wedding photography
  • affordable wedding photography in [city]
  • student wedding photographer
  • wedding photography discounts in [city]
  • wedding photographer in [zip code]
  • wedding photography estimate
  • popular wedding photographers in [city]
  • wedding photography hourly rate

Many of the keyword phrases above have little to no competition, so it’s fairly easy to dominate a few of them and gain some consistent year-round traffic to your website.

While every other wedding photographer in your city is targeting the same 5 search phrases, you can build your business by going after the keywords that brides are using, but everyone else is ignoring.

Client Example

For one of our existing SEO clients, we created a 1,000-word blog post that covered the topic of pre-wedding photography and embedded a short explainer video within the blog post. Once published, they shared it on their social media accounts and we built a few links to it. Within 90 days, both the blog post and video were ranking on page 1 for this search phrase.

Another Client Example

For another client, we optimized their existing Pricing page to instead target [city name] wedding photography packages. We edited some of their page wording and tweaked the page title. It didn’t take long for them to start seeing organic traffic coming in from local planning couples searching for photography packages in their city.

Target Low-Hanging Fruit

Sometimes the best keywords to focus on are the ones you already rank for.

Head on over to SEMrush and type in your website URL to see a list of keywords your website currently ranks for in Google. I suggest targeting pages that are ranking at the top or middle of page 2. Use this keyword list to tweak your homepage copy or refresh existing content to make it more relevant and targeted for those keywords. A little effort can go a long way to improve rankings.

Reveal Competitor Keywords

Wouldn’t it be cool if you could easily see a list of your competitor’s backlinks and uncover the keywords that they are going after?

With AHREFs you can. Simply type in your competitors URL to see metrics such as their backlinks, anchor text and their top content that is bringing in organic traffic. I use this tool on a daily basis to identify new keyword opportunities for SEO clients. .

Overview

Google Suggest

The auto suggest results provided by Google are a goldmine of insight for today’s wedding marketers. If a user enters a letter or a word in Google’s search field, they are automatically shown associated terms in a dropdown menu. These suggestions are generated based on the most frequently searched terms. Use this information to create a “hit list” of keyword phrases that can be targeted with new blog content. Totally free to do.

WeddingWire Forums

If you are serious about improving your SEO and dominating your local search results, it’s really important that you stay current on the questions and queries that today’s planning brides & grooms are using. The WeddingWire forums are awesome when it comes to finding out what questions and concerns today’s couples have and the exact phrases they are using.

Related Searches

At the very bottom of Google search results, there is an area called “Related Searches”. This is where you’ll find other keywords that Google specifically feels are relevant and related to your original search. If you’re having trouble ranking for a specific broad keyword, you might want to try instead targeting one of these variations. Many times these can be significantly less competitive to rank for, yet still deliver solid traffic.

Analyze your contact form submissions

Each time you receive a contact form inquiry from a potential client, take note of the wording and phrasing they are using when they are communicating about your services. You can sometimes find highly-targeted content ideas to begin ranking for in your city if you can spot a trend emerging.

AnswerThePublic

AnswerThePublic is a visual keyword research tool. As you type you are presented with an aggregated view of the questions & therefore a hint of the motivations & emotions of the people behind each search query. It’s perhaps one of the best but most underutilized sources of research for content ideas and longtail keyword research.

BuzzSumo

BuzzSumo is a nifty online tool that allows you to find the type of content that is most shared on popular social media channels. Just type in your targeted keyword phrase and you’ll get a list of the most viral content for that phrase. Once you know the most shared content related to these keywords, you can write a piece of content that is better, more up to date and more detailed.

KWFinder

KWFinder is probably my favorite online tool for quickly finding keyword variations to rank for. Their SEO difficulty score is really handy for checking how difficult it would be to rank for specific keywords. They have a free version that allows you a limited number of searches per day, or you can opt to upgrade to their paid version. Definitely worth the cost, in my opinion. Below is a snapshot of a recent search:

Intitle Advance search

Using this little Google search trick can be a powerful arsenal in finding low competitive keywords to rank for. Done properly, you can instantly see how many websites are using a specific search phase in their website title. The more people targeting that exact phrase, the harder it usually is to rank for. Wedding keywords are often flooded with a lot of websites. Seems that a lot of people love posting online about weddings. From planners, photographers, DJ’s, and caterers. They all have their own rankings for wedding related keywords. Don’t despair however because if you can put in the grind then you can rank high for those keywords.
